The Causes Of Gout

What Causes Gout?

Aside from thinking of the ways to treat gout, it is also important to ask what causes gout if you are suffering from such arthritic condition.

People who have experienced the unbearable and searing pain caused by gout will surely want to know what they can do in order to minimize or avoid the underlying causes of this condition.

Just like in other diseases or conditions, once you have learned the reasons why you are feeling such excruciating pains, you will be able to find ways to manage the condition. In essence, gout is caused by uric acid.

If you have a lot of uric acid in the body for a prolonged period of time, there is a big possibility that your excess uric acid will form into uneven crystal-like compounds lodged in between your joints. People who eat a lot of foods rich in purines, which is converted into uric acid when not used by the body, are the ones who are most likely to develop this type of arthritis.

Some of the foods that are rich in purines are also the ones that cause diabetes and hypertension. Thus, many experts believe that individuals who are suffering from high blood pressure, obesity, and irregular kidney functions are also at a higher risk of getting this problem.

Many experts will tell you that men are more predisposed to acquire this condition than women. One of the underlying reasons behind this is that men are more inclined to consume excessive amounts of beer and other alcoholic beverages.

Aside from beverages with high alcohol content, recent studies have also established the connection of consuming sugary fructose-rich drinks to gout. In some instances, people get confused as to what causes gout in their particular case, especially if they are already in a low-purines diet and are no longer drinking beer.

If you fall under this category, you might want to look into the types of medication that you are taking regularly. Studies show that low-dose aspirin, tuberculosis drugs, niacin, thiazide diuretics, and cyclosporine are also responsible for the development of gout in some people.
