Gout Recipes: Your First
Line of Defense against Joint Inflammation
Ideal gout recipes adhere to the
fact that minimizing meat and fat in the diet can lower
the amounts of uric acid in the bloodstream and
therefore prevent the joints from becoming inflamed. So,
for many sufferers of this disease, a diet made up
mostly of fruits and vegetables should be the
norm.
Specifically, do not forget to
include fruits that have high levels of Vitamin C. And
always drink plenty of water along with the recommended
dishes that help fight gout.
One example of an ideal anti-gout
meal can be found in the classic coleslaw. Your main
gout-fighting ingredient here is the shredded cabbage,
which can be around 1 to 2 pounds. You will also need
some vinegar, a pinch of sugar or another natural
sweetener and salt. Some low fat butter and non-fat
whipping cream are also essential to make the coleslaw
tastier.
Plus, you will need 2 lightly
beaten large eggs. Simply combine vinegar, sweetener,
salt, whipping cream and the eggs in a saucepan and then
cook until the mixture thickens. As you cook, remember
to constantly stir the mixture with a whisk. When it is
done, add some butter, make sure that it melts into the
mix. And then, just pour all of it onto the shredded
cabbage and then toss. Cover the coleslaw and let it
chill for a few minutes and enjoy. This meal is simple
and complete even if it has no meat.
But if you are thinking that gout
recipes are bland and should always be green and leafy,
think again. Sure you can still enjoy a variety of foods
without risking a gout attack. You can definitely munch
on tuna, salmon, pineapple, bananas, and tomatoes among
other stuff. You can even eat meat as long as you do it
sparingly and only with lean parts.
And contrary to popular belief, not all nuts and legumes can be bad for gout. As a matter of fact, doctors recommend that you eat soy products and walnuts. These are important sources of healthy essential fatty acids. For pain relief, you can try cherry fruits or natural juice available in bottles. |
